Steven Marking has been singing opera and classical music

for twenty-five years. While he enjoys his operatic persuits,

he also studies American popular music. He and his students

have recently given concerts featuring the music of Jerome

Kern, Jules Stein, Irving Berlin, Harold Arlen, George Gershwin,

and Rodgers and Hammerstein. He enjoys singing at local churches,

and giving vocal workshops to church and community choirs.

A note from Steve:

I started working with Dottie Cross about five years ago, and every couple of months, she would bring me a new song that seemed to fit my voice and style so well.

But when she brought me "It is Finished", it was the words that moved me to tears, so that, I could barely finish the song. So profoundly they outlined the struggles I was going through in my own life, that just singing the song became a truly religious experience for me.

I found a way to lift myself up, and focus more on what I had to offer, than on things I wished to have or things I wanted to be true.

Dottie is an inspiration to me and she makes me feel confident when she plays for me.

I think her playing on this recording is as sensitive and expressive as anyone can ask for, and I love her dearly for all that she brings into my life.
